She’s Not Just Hot, She’s Vice President

Date February 12, 2008

Now why would we write something like that? Heaven knows, if any woman is going to ascend to the top levels of American government, it would only be a woman who was field tested by Democrats and Gloria Steinem approved, right? Women who don’t pledge themselves to the Woman Code or don’t fake it by voting liberal can’t possibly be qualified for public office, let alone be successful. There aren’t women out there who can juggle being a wife, a mom, a hard-nosed political operative, and say, being governor, and if there was, she’s probably practically deformed, right? She probably wears pantsuits, has that ugly haircut that someone in the nineties mandated you get when you buy your first pair of jeans from Land’s End.

And she’s probably a liberal.

But if you thought all of this, you’d probably be wrong. John Hawkins (who gave us a crazy-awesome plug, so we’ll give one back even though my twenty hits won’t even register on his statcounter) has his top 22 picks for McCain’s Veep, and we share love for one possibility in particular.

Sarah Palin: She’s the extremely popular, very attractive, very young governor of Alaska. She’s appealing and fairly conservative, but she’s a little too inexperienced for the job since she’s only been governor of Alaska since 2006.

Okay, that makes her sound terrible, and like we’re all inexperienced at this and stuff, and like she’s all inexperienced and stuff and she’s not. Yes, she was Miss Congeniality when she competed for Miss Alaska, she used marijuana when it was legal in her state, loves moose burgers and snowmobiling and is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (she sounds like a Playboy calendar girl now, oops), but she has so much more to offer than just being the dream girl of any red-blooded American, Republican man. She’s been a city councilman, a mayor, head of various commissions within the state of Alaska (some of which she quit because her fellow Republican commissioners were too corrupt — a character trait we need more of), and she’s done a hell of a good job as governor and is a total DC outsider. Did we mention she favors spreading the wealth so as to empower local rule, sold a wasteful government jet on eBay, and is a member of Feminists for Life?

And did we mention she’s hot? Okay, maybe thats not a qualification for office for everyone, but some of us might be a little attracted to Dick Cheney and we’re not afraid to admit that we voted for him because of that (it was one of many…don’t go all sanctimonious on us)…why not share the wealth?

After all, its not like the Democrats are voting on any major policy grounds.

Sarah Palin, hot? Nice looking - certainly. Attractive - okay. Hot - not really.

It’s funny how men and women can differ in judgements of same sex attractiveness. When my wife first met my son’s second grade teacher, she went on and on about how beautiful she was. My reaction was “Ehhh…”.

I think she’d make a better VP than Huckabee. I think I’d make a better VP than Huckabee too.

    I nominate EM for VP.

Sarah Palin is hot! Yeah, she’s attractive, but there’s much more to her than a pleasant appearance. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Alaska governor since early last year, around the time she threw Ted Stevens and his Bridge to Nowhere under the bus.
She has impressive credentials as a conservative, as an able and frugal steward of the Alaska public’s money, and as a mom. My biggest question is this: does she want the VP post?

Yes, Sarah Palin is hot…and what’s wrong with that? Women have went on and on about presidents like JFK and Bill Clinton for a couple of generations. I say it’s about time men got a little executive branch eye candy as well, even if it is only a VP. Hopefully we’ll get presidential eye candy during my liftime (Sarah Palin for President)!!!

I am from California, and I am a Democrat voting for McCain and Sarah Palin. First, Obama says experience is a negative, doesn’t matter… now all of sudden it matters?
She is a Governor. A governor runs a state. What has Obama ever run? ! She’s smart, and she has charisma. Go Sarah!

    P.S. She is hot.

  10. M-F said:

She is hot, but the lack of qualifiation is stunning. She will need a pocket copy of the constitution just to carry out the duties of the VP! She got a BA from Iowa in journalism with a minor in politics. That’s it. Hardly the best and brightest woman out there, a fluffball cheerleader for McCain at best. Gimme a break. One heartbeat away, what a joke!

  11. E. M. Zanotti said:

Wait….our Veep candidate has more experience than the Dems’ presidential candidate who, if I recall correctly, cited a summer abroad as his foreign policy qualifications. Adorable! Suddenly the Dems want experience…I wish Hillary were around to hear this…

Oh, and she’s dumb…is she? At least she managed to get into and work her way through college without help from government programs. And she got elected to office without having to milk Richard Daley. And…doesn’t Obama have a poli sci degree?

    Amateur hour. Jeeze.

  12. M-F said:

I think if you are going to take the oath of office for President, and swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. You should have some fundamental understanding of the constitution! She has a BA in journalism and no national experience.

Bush crossed way too many lines being an intellectual lightweight. He is quoted as saying: “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!” Google it if you don’t believe me.

Now we get this lightweight cheerleader who won’t even have more than a basic idea of what the constitution stands for!!! Its a new low, and McCain had plenty better women to pick from. Unbelieveable lightweight.

Not surprising that no one wants to go on record about a private meeting with perhaps the most embarassing statement ever made by any president of the US. Even if you disbelieve the quote, the fact that the constitution has been weakened during Bush’s term is undeniable. We are heading down a slippery slope.

But hey, it would be great to have a beer with McCain, Palin and Bush huh? Lets just base our vote on that and go back to watching reality TV while our civil liberties and the rule of law go undefended in Washington. Palin isn’t going to lift a finger to improve that problem because she’ll be happily clueless on the entire topic.

And ya, Richard, funny. It’s a no-win election for Hillary. She won’t be such a novelty in 2012 if Obama loses.

  17. jtcorey said:

A source who did not wish to be named said that, if elected, Obama plans on pledging allegience to Osama bin Laden, and requiring that all U.S. citizens do the same, under penalty of death.

Well, now it’s on the Internet, so it must be true.

And thanks for being so predictable. I’ve been hearing how our civil liberties will disappear if the Republicans win ever since I first voted, in 1984. Nice to see that some old traditions never die.

So glad I came across this today. And, while she is lovely, her looks aren’t the greatest thing Palin has going. She’s passionate, driven and a proven leader. Moreover, I don’t recall the last time I witnessed someone so genuine in the national political spotlight. She means what she says and it shows. It is so refreshing! And the fact that she’s a member of Feminists for Life is just the ultimate icing on the cake!

  20. ByeObama said:

Yes she is hot, very hot. Not just “for a VP” hot - but just straight up hot, in every way.

  21. S Render said:

Is she really, genuinely hot? Not really. Her appeal lies in how she is possibly the single best example of a MILF. Between the glasses, the hair and the decent body, if you had a crush on your friend’s mom when you were 11, that’s probably what she looked like.

  22. M-F said:

Two years ago she was the mayor of a town of 9000 people with a BA in journalism.

She said she doesn’t think much about Iraq and she has a son going there?

She will be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, and if she had to assume the Presidency in short order she would have as much working knowledge of the constitution as a high school student. I mean, seriously, she is going to “protect and defend” the constitution as the President? Obama graduated from Harvard Law and was a constitutional law professor (who declined tenure several times) at University of Chicago.

She is a great political gimmick, and hot yes, but come on. Had she ran in the primaries she would have been laughed out of the race on day 1. She is spectacularily unqualified.

All of the knee-jerkers like to say that–”Mayor of a town of 9000 two years ago!” Yeah, and then governor of a state of 670,000. An executive office, by the way. How many years’ of that experience did Savetheworld Obamaself have, again? Oh, wait–none. And that’s what really galls his supporters–that the Republican Vice Presidential candidate has more experience as an executive than their Presidential choice.

Oh, and that “heartbeat from the presidency” stuff–I wouldn’t worry too much. McCain’s looking pretty healthy. So’s his mother, who seems to demonstrate that his genetics are in his favor.

Besides, if that line really meant anything to you guys, you’d have bitched your asses off when Obama announced that he had chosen Senator Nose Hair as his running mate.

Mav I wish you could see the big grin on my face as guys like you, John and M-F continue to denigrate the accomplishments of an articulate, smart and self-made successful Governor.

Your snide comments may fly with all the latte drinkers in DC (though I must admit I like a nice latte every once in a while) but good luck explaining them to middle American voters who will decide this race. Yes, you know, voters from all the battleground states here in the middle of the country. You know all of us gun-totin, NASCAR lovin in-breds.

Keep it up boys, you are just gullible enough to get rope-a-doped again. I see how well that line of attack has worked in so many past Presidential elections. No wonder you guys can’t ever seem to win even when the odds are stacked in your favor.

Do tell me though. Tell me what accomplishments Obama does have that makes him a credible Presidential candidate?

Hmmm…. Lets see. He has lots of degrees! Oh yes this qualifies him! Well he is a Senator you might say. Yes he’s held the title for all of 3 years, with 150 DAYS of actual work in the Senate and ZERO legislative accomplishments to his name. Yeah, thats the experience we need to run the government. Yes there’s all that executive experience at the Chicago Annenburg Challenge! Do you really want to go there?

Now lets compare. Sarah Palin, the VP Pick for McCain. Governor of the largest state in the union. Has hands on experience in regards to ENERGY POLICY seeing that one of the larger part of her jobs is dealing with energy companies. Sh has negotiated international trade deals (Obama… Mmmm, not so much unless you count a speech in front of a bunch of crazed Germans as a qualification). Commands the Alaska National Guard in a state that borders RUSSIA. Has rooted out wasteful spending and has challenged her own party.

Hmmm…. How many times has Obama, who is all about change and bipartisanship and hope and stuff ever done or voted against his party? Thats what I thought, another ZERO. You know, the more I talk about Obama’s ZERO experience I’m reminded of Senator ZERO’s new symbol of change… Yes, its a big ZERO!

By the way, Gov. Palin has an 80% approval rating from her constituents. Last time I looked, Congress’s approval rating was somewhere approaching single digits (you might think its also approaching ZERO)!

Yeah, keep laughing boys, you are oh so convincing!

McCain is gambling with the future of the country. His “Country First” slogan is BS, it’s politics first for MCcain. He is 72. Every additional year he lives he is beating the odds. If McCain dies in his first year in office, the cheerleader takes the helm. And of course the neocons will be there to help her start an unnecessary war with Iran and ratchet up tensions with Russia. (Evil, evil Russia, the country that got attacked with no warning by Europe multiple times, and lost 20 million lives in WWII, is just so evil for wanting a buffer zone.)

And if your not concerned with the neocons trying to take over the world, then how about domestic policy? Will one more free tradd deal, and one more tax cut for the rich turn the US economy around? Will one more free trade deal bring jobs back to the rust belt states? If you look at our trade with China you can see the US has given away it’s financial independence for a bunch of plastic shoes and cheap ipods. US trade with China is now 250 billion a year in imports and 58 billion ayear in exports. We gave away our jobs and currency in terrible trade deals, for what? Nothing but big consumer debt and big government debt and a current account deficit which is at record highs. Cheney said deficits don’t matter and Bush believed him. The US is literally heading for insolvency and people are going to base their vote on a gimmick. I guess we get the government we deserve. God help us.

  36. john said:

    Mike…………

Where did I denegrate this woman’s accomplishments? I just don’t like the fact that everyone in the republican party acts as tho the whole country is stupid in regards to their actions………..case in point George Bush says the war in Iraq is over and has declared a victory for the U.S. back in 2002 (not sure of the year) but in the meantime the death toll continues to rise. How is that a “victory?” George Bush can’t find Osama Bin Laden or so he says. Maybe because the Bush family and the Bin Laden have a working relationship together (dating back to at least the 70’s maybe further) he’s not looking too hard? Especially in light of the fact that Saddam was found under a rock in the middle of nowhere? (maybe not a rock, but I think I made my point). Does anybody else see a correlation between the rise in oil prices and the fact that an oil man is in the Whitehouse? Don’t think it could be because of the friendship of the 2 families? Hmmmm wonder who stands to benefit from that? And here I was thinking that the President was supposed to support and help his countrymen, not rob them blind with the help of the Vice President and the man in charge on 9/11 Donald Rumsfeld! Countless other points could be made concerning the republican party and how they just don’t seem to care and don’t want to know anything beyond the ends of their collective noses. But I’m afraid my breath is being wasted on you. Now McCain picks a less than qualified V.P. hockeymom, cheerleader type candidate who is in the middle of a scandal in her home state and now we are expected to believe that she is the best candidate? Why pick her, wasn’t Ted Steven’s or someone not involved in a scandal available? Hard to find 1 in the party? And because the Dems had a woman candidate vying for the Democratic Nomination the Republicans better get a woman involved too even if she involved in a scandal. Typical Republican thinking. We better copy the Dems because we have no clue what the public really wants and we have no want to really know. Afterall anybody who makes less then 5 million dollars a year is middle class, right? By the way, I don’t drink latte’s, I enjoy MGD’s

  37. jtcorey said:

One plus about Palin–when she talks about her background, you know that it’s her own background she’s talking about, and not a story she’s “borrowed” from someone else. And so far, I haven’t heard anything about how she’s inflated her accomplishments as a student, either. I don’t know of any “scandal” she’s involved in, although I suppose if I was dead set against her to begin with, a cursory check of her history plus a lot of wishful thinking might make me think there was something FISHY about that whole trooper story thingy.

If Palin had more than four years’ experience in Washington–hell, anywhere for that matter–she’d be another “crony,” an “insider.” If she’d had so much as a parking ticket in that time, the usual Democrat castratos would be screaming about how that ticket was an example of how she thinks that she’s above the law and the rules don’t apply to her and haven’t we suffered enough from people like her? But since she isn’t a long-time party loyalist, it’s time to wail that the sky is falling and we’re all going to die because she’s not someone who can be attacked as being part of the network.

John was right about one thing, though. His breath IS wasted. Sad when perfectly good oxygen is squandered away so pointlessly.

  38. John said:

You see nothing concerning about Palin’s trooper-gate? Trying to get her sister’s ex-husband fired? Abuse of government power is big government at it’s very worst. So is the 4 trillion in debt Bush has accumulated in 8 years. So corporate welfare. But Republicans only seem to complain about big government if it involves helping the poor

  43. M-F said:

I guess the Republican side doesn’t even try to bother defending big government any more. Why bother when you can have big, bug government and super low taxes. The best of both worlds right? Like buying a house with a 100% financed ARM mortgage, what could go wrong, right?

    She’s hot.

She’s hot in a very particular way.

To start with, she’s interestingly attractive, with what Craig Ferguson called the “naughty librarian” thing going on.

But that only gets you as far as “interestingly attractive.”

What takes it up a notch to “hot” is the fact that:
    (a.) She’s independent, in that way that would make you feel like more of a man to have her, not less of a man because she doesn’t respect you;
    (b.) She’s capable, which means that while she’d need you for the tough days in life, she wouldn’t be a needy whining basket-case every day for stupid reasons;
    (c.) She takes care of herself and looks good, but not in some vain high-maintenance kind of way;
(d.) She’s good (i.e. of good character) which means you’d be unafraid to introduce her to mom, or of how she’d raise your kids.

If I met her husband, I’d want to tell him: “Good call, friend, and let me buy you a beer.”

“Hot” is the correct verdict. Can I get a witness, gentlemen?

  47. Scott R. said:

In reply to M-F. You are both right (and wrong) concerning Sarah Palin and the Republican party in general. I’m a conservative but I don’t call myself a Republican or Democrat. I don’t believe the foundations that either party was built on still hold any truth for them today. It’s hard to believe that the orginal “less federal government” & “less taxation” that was the root of the Republican party in the beginning is now the same party that has spent/wasted so much of OUR hard earned money.

THAT is one of the reasons I really like Sarah Palin. I think she is sincere about not wasting money (she (as the governor) sold the governor’s private jet and fired the governor’s chef - both were ‘perks’ she could have easily kept).

Experience? I think enough bloggers have pointed out that Sarah has at LEAST just as much REAL experience as BO. More if you consider a Governorship more responsibility then Senatorship…:-)

Basically, altough I love my country and I am very, very patriotic, I also recongize that government spending has gotten WAY out of control (China now owns how much of our debt? - that is just plain scary) not just for the war but also to fund way to many public programs that just don’t work (estimated 31% FRAUD with welfare right now?). I have no problem with assistance programs but when the money is used to buy smokes & booze and payoff credit cards and the system is actually setup to give you MORE money if you keep having MORE children you can’t support, THAT IS JUST WRONG and I’m tired of paying for it.

So, I guess I’m hoping that Sarah Palin CAN do what she says and won’t be pulled into the viper’s den. If her past is an indicator, that should not be a problem.

Lastly, I hope everyone watches the VP Debate October 2nd. Yes, Biden is an expert debator but so is Palin. Anyone thinks she is going to be intimidated or slammed by him in a “war of the words” may be in for a surprise….

Anyone else like to watch Glenn Beck?

Yea I wondered too then found out that the Republican ticket is dead set against abortion……….hmmm another choice gone and saying as much certainly couldn’t help them or their chances in the Nov election now could it?
How many women would vote for the Republicans if they knew their stance on abortion?

Then I’m reading the 8/25 issue of Time and what do my wandering eyes see? The article entitled “The Bear Is Back on The Prowl” 2nd Paragraph, 2nd Column.
“For the first time in nearly 2 decades , Russia became an issue for the presidential candidates. Both Obama and McCain called Georgian President Mikheil Saakashivili to express support and received phone briefings from Condoleeza Rice. The McCain campaignheaped scorn on Obama’s call for restraint from Russia and Georgia and renewed Senator McCain’s demand that that Russia be eveicted from from the G-8 club of leading industrial nations. At a townhall meeting on 8/12 McCain had called Saakshavillito tell him” Today we are all Georgians” The campaign insisted McCain’s position was not influenced by part ownership by his top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, of a lobbying firm employed by the Georgian government”…………………….

Hmm not influenced by part ownership by his top foreign policy adviser who is a part owner of a lobbying firm employed by the Georgian government……………….

Didn’t John McCain say that if elected that the lobbyists wouldn’t run Washington?

Once again the American voter is staring at a Republican who is finds it more important to cater to special interests than to that of the common person……….The Republicans say 1 thing and do another………Sarah Palin fired a personal chef and got rid of a the Governors private jet when she took office in Alaska, but now sees fit to jet from stop to stop. John McCain voted 90% of the time right along with Bush, but now we ,the american voter, are supposed to believe by distancing himself from Bush makes him more believable? Walter Reed Middle School instead of Walter Reed Hospital and the song Barracuda by Heart were both used without the respective consent of both parties, why? Likely a sneaky way to try to dupe the american public into believeing there’s more support for the Republican’s than there really is. The funniest part was when the Wilson sisters of Heart said that in no way shape or form do they share the same viewpoints with the Republicans…..whoops, just an oversight by the party, right?, right? heres a link for you…..www.therealjohnmccain.com

You know, it’s easy to spin the facts around to fit either agenda. For example, when the democrats say that John McCain “approves tax breaks for the big oil companies” why don’t they go on to explain that ALL large corporations get the SAME tax breaks (except the porn industry) and that John McCain just doesn’t feel that big oil should be singled out because they make a lot of money. If you are going reason that way, then there are a lot of other companies who are getting these same tax breaks who make MORE money (Microsoft has a 25% profit margin compared to 7% for big oil). Shall we take away the tax breaks for Microsoft too? Perhaps redistribute their wealth to the people?

As far as Sarah Palin “jetting” around right now. It’s not that she is against FLYING, she just didn’t think the office of the Governor of Alaska needed the added EXPENSE of a privately owned jet. What do you expect the candidates to do? Show they are against excess spending by walking the campain trail?…:-)

Also, there is a difference between being “pro life” and “deadset against” I think. No one is arguing that there may be circumstances where abortion is necessary (to save the life of the mother for example) but just allowing anyone at anytime to abort for any reason (inconvenience) isn’t the answer either. I think “deadset against” applies more to very late term abortions and laws that allow underage children to get abortions (often more then once) without the knowledge of the parents.

Honestly, I don’t know if McCain will be better then Bush. I do know that spending has gotten way out of control and if he does follow in the same footsteps, we will be in big trouble. Also, I have nothing against Obama as a person. He has a very magnetic personality for sure. I just think his ideas are very socialist and I’m not sure that the security of this country is going to be something he can deal with very well.
